Pi Pi Omega Chapter History

In the fall of 1984, several members of Epsilon Pi Omega chapter who resided on the North Shore of Nassau and Suffolk counties were charged with the responsibility of coordinating all of the printing for the December 1985 Calendar Girl Pageant. These members mostly lived in Westbury. At the meetings, as the members worked on the printing of the tickets, pageant program, and the journal, there were continued discussions concerning the need for service in the Westbury community.

In April 1985, several members attended the North Atlantic Regional Conference in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. While in attendance the four members agreed that the first step would be to gather information relevant to chartering a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Westbury, New York. During the conference, Carol Dodson spoke to Soror Ruth Easley who was the North Atlantic Regional Director about the procedures for chartering a chapter. Soror Easley informed the four members that the procedures would be forthcoming. By the first meeting, the interest group had grown to include members from Westbury and other nearby communities. Meetings were held on a regular basis at various members’ homes. Concurrent with our organizational activities were the development and implementation of community service projects in the Westbury and New Cassel area. The interest group focused on literacy projects with the senior citizens and students in Westbury.

Pi Pi Omega Chapter was chartered on March 14, 1987. Twenty-six charter members participated as the North Atlantic Regional Director, Soror Idell Pugh, conducted the chartering. Since our chartering, the women of Pi Pi Omega Chapter have proudly provided community service in the Westbury and New Cassel communities.

In identifying the needs of the community, Pi Pi Omega has worked diligently over the past several years. Some examples of our efforts to address these issues as we strive to abide by our mission to be of…Service to All Mankind can be found on our programs page.
